By day (most days), we are parents, employees, entrepreneurs, students, stay-at-home-moms/dads...We have a title and that title has its own set of responsibilities and demands. While we may love the hustle and grind of everyday life, finding a moment of peace and self-care is essential.

A while ago, I began my  journey to self-healing and self-love. Years of single-parenting, working for thankless companies and what I later came to understand was depression, left me feeling hopeless without tools or steps to recover (“came to understand” because depression was NOT openly discussed or accepted).

After many years, and well into my 30’s, I began journaling with more depth. I found getting it all out and crying a lot, freed me. I found time here and there and would just write until my hands hurt. Then I remembered how much I loved candles, and started purchasing them to have in the bathroom, the kitchen and in my living room. At first they were .99 cent store candles, but once I found out about clean-burning candles, that was the only way to go. I created my peaceful space with natural scents. 

I kept going from there. I received a gift card for Macys from a holiday gift exchange from work. Of course, that was not my “go-to” place to shop, so I didn’t know what to get. I found some cute shiny accents, and purchased them. I had spaces that I could go to find peace for myself. I have continued this ritual for myself and have expanded on it to ensure no matter where I am, I take my peace with me.

I am not a therapist, I am a person who believes in the power of our surroundings and does NOT wish to walk through life depressed, when there is something I can do about it.
